Hi all,
So, I’ve finally got the O.K. to announce this: my book, How to Survive in the North, will be published in 2016 by Nobrow.
The book is about Arctic Castaways, and love and adventure, and loss. I’m really proud of it, and the fact that it’s going to be out in the world makes me downright giddy.
I also couldn’t be happier to be working with Nobrow. The last 6 months of grinding away on this book have been an absolute pleasure.
This book is more than 6 months old, though. It’s the comic I started making about 18 months ago as my thesis project at The Center for Cartoon Studies. If you’ve been following this blog for a while, then you’ve probably seen pages of it before. Still, that version of the book was always meant to be just for school. I wrapped up work on that version almost a full year ago. I even hand bound it into hardback volumes.
Well, I sent Nobrow that draft of the book and a few months later I heard back, and I’ve been working with them ever since. Needless to say that the final book will look pretty different to the stuff you’ve seen here before.
I rewrote large sections of it, and ended up basically redrawing the whole thing. Well now the pencils are 100% done, and I’m ready to enter the home stretch!
I’ve been posting process shots of the pencils on twitter for the last few months, which you might have seen if you follow me over there.
As I move into producing final art, I’ll probably be able to share less and less online, so now felt like a great time to just pull together some of the stuff that’s already out there.
I’m sure some of these details will change as we get closer to the book’s release next year, but I really just wanted to let people know what I’ve been working on. You can certainly follow me here and on twitter, if you’d like to keep up to date on any developments!
Making comics brings me so much joy, and I hope that when this book finally hits the shelves, you’ll feel a little bit of that joy in the work.
Now I just have to finish drawing the thing!
Best,
-Luke
P.S. I’ve got some other really exciting projects going on right now, but they’re a bit too premature to announce just yet.
Dog City Editor, Luke Healy has something truly wonderful in the works with Nobrow Press!
Be sure to follow his blog for more updates and short comics as he shares them.

‘Trevor’ was originally published by the talented folks over at Dog City Press. These guys have really blown me away with their anthologies so far and I am one lucky cuss to have been asked to contribute for their second issue.
